Real Women Revealed Sistserhood Rap Session – Juneteenth 2015

You ever feel like you were definitely in the right place at the right time. Well, I had that feeling at my own event. 🙂

RWR hosted a Sisterhood Rap Session at Juneteenth at Eastlake Park in Phoenix. We had a great group of women come out (with the conversation we had I wish it could have been more); nevertheless, the conversation was much needed. We hit some of those topics that we not always talk about publicly but we do talk about it. The conversation was perfect for the occasion, Juneteenth!

To give you some insight here’s some of the topics we talked about:

  • Thoughts on supporting Black Businesses. (Do we seek them out? What effort is going into the support? Do we expect certain discounts (hook-ups as some may call it)? Do other nationalities feel the same way about supporting their race & do they give those discounts just because?) The misconceptions that we hear about black businesses. Take the time to give feed-back (constructive criticism to that business).
  • Do we have boundaries & respect for each other’s business?
  • Are we our Sister’s Keeper? (Do we have to be in certain cliques to support each other? Pushing your ego aside to join forces to work on our similar goals and missions for the greater good. Are we intimidated by other women is why we may not show the support. What issues are you dealing with personally such as your own self-esteem and self-love issues? Are you upset that you feel that another woman’s success seems to be blossoming more than yours?)
  • Are we re-inventing the wheel? Are there too many of the same businesses? We all have our own specific passions, but must we come together for the greater good!
  • What are our sisterhood responsibilities? Are we mentoring young girls; young women; and empowering them? What are we actually teaching them? Are we showing them how to manage money responsibly? If we feel that we have made a mark in our success – our responsibility in reaching back and helping/uplifting another woman.
  • How should we best schedule large events so that are not being scheduled on the same day and time?

Now you can imagine that we basically shut Juneteenth down. By the time we came out of our Rap Session room the once crowded Juneteenth was no longer. The staff was actually cleaning up when we came out, and guess what? We could have kept talking but we knew we all had to go. Another magical thing happened:  when there were only about 6 of us left in the room and we really went deep. We said, let’s remove the transparency and talk about some real solutions!

So stay tuned for a follow up on some of these topics. Stay tuned for the SOLUTIONS and SUPPORT WOMEN! As women if we really came together strong (especially with women buying power) AIN’T NO STOPPING US NOW!!!!!

Much Love, Peace, and Blessings!
